NEWS FLASH

As part of a national effort, our American History class will be taking part in the Veterans History Project, an effort to collect and preserve as much historical information and personal data from surviving American military veterans of World War I, World War II, the Korean Conflict, the Viet Nam War, the Gulf War, and the current fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq.

My students will be asked to study the sites found on the links page and then to conduct an interview with a veteran from the Rochester area (or with someone they know who lives outside our area). Detailed instructions on the interview process will be given to each student once he sets up his interview.  The standard release forms used by the national project will be followed by the students in my class, in case they wish to submit their results to the Library of Congress.

Each student is to complete this assignment by May 31st. The grade on this project will count as the equivalent of one (1) chapter test.

Students should hand in their interview in one of the following formats:

  • typewritten and double-spaced **
  • on disk in either Microsoft Word (.doc) or plain text (.txt) file format
  • on video tape or digital video (DVD)
  • on audio tape

** Work handed in typewritten will not be included on our web site.

Students who wish to do so are encouraged to send their work into the Veterans History Project for inclusion in the national effort to preserve this living historical record.

Next: Proceed (or return) to the links page and study in detail the two information sites on this project.
