What materials do I need for this course?

You will need to bring your textbook WorldHistory: People and Nations with you to class each day.

You will also need to have a pocket folder or three-ring binder in which to keep your chapter packets. You will receive a packet at the beginning of each chapter in which you will record your class notes, nightly guided reading review, chapter study guide, and other assignments.  This packet is to be handed in on the day of the chapter test. It will be graded and returned to you.

How are the grades determined for Global II?

50% of your marking period grade is determined by your average on all tests and quizzes given during that marking period.  Each test has a point values (between 30 and 60, depending on the number of sections in the text that it covers).

The other 50% of your marking period grade is composed of the following:

      • Chapter Study guides - 40%
        • Class Notes & Worksheets
        • Daily Guided Reading Review Pages
        • Current Events sheets
        • Chapter Study Guides
        • Independent Study
      • Class Participation - 10%

NOTE: If you are missing assignments or tests at the end of the marking period, you will receive no credit. This can have serious implications for your grade, so be sure your work is complete and all missed tests are made up.

How can I be sure what my assignments and responsibilities are?

At the beginning of every month you will receive a calendar for the entire month which lists all homework assignments, test dates, current events assignments, and the due dates for any other work that is required.  You should put this calendar in your notebook, or in your locker for safe keeping.

You can request a second copy of the calendar, if you want to bring one home. And, of course, the monthly calendar is always available here on the web site.

What is the course policy regarding tests and absences?

If you are absent for a scheduled test, you will need to make up the test within one week of returning to school. (This will keep you from building up too much make-upwork due at the end of the marking period.)You will be given a different test from the one given to the class, but it will be of similar difficulty.

If you were absent the day or two before the scheduled test and are in school on the day of the test, you will be expected to take the test along with the rest of the class. (That is why it is important to do the nightly work and not let it all go until the night before the test.) If you do poorly on a test for which you missed the review session, you may if you choose take a second test on the chapter and I will give you the average of your two grades.
